The year 2018 has been a year marked by uncertainties in the automotive sector, especially by the diesel engine crisis that has encouraged many buyers to make the leap towards other alternatives to diesel. Thus, electric vehicles have signed a very good 2018, registering a 60% increase in electric vehicle registrations compared to 2017. Thus, 2019 is presented as a key year in the promotion of the electric car, being encouraged by the implementation of new restrictions on the "traditional" vehicle such as Madrid Central, but making it clear that there is still much to be done to electrify the Spanish car fleet.

In 2018, 15,495 electric vehicles and 5,686 plug-in hybrids were registered, which represents a significant increase compared to 2017 where 13,021 registrations were registered between both technologies. This accumulated includes 6,132 passenger cars, 1,825 vans, 3,938 mopeds and 3,352 motorcycles. In this way the growth has occurred through different types of vehicles, highlighting how it has been the Community of Madrid that has taken the bulk of sales thanks to the aid plan approved last December.
